Out & About: Whyte

With my current work status set to part time, I am temporarily in the luxurious position of having a 4 day weekend every week! And what better way to spend a Monday afternoon than catching up with my dear friend Miss C and indulging in some South-side eats? A couple of Monday's ago I did just that.

After collecting Miss C we headed up to Whyte in Glen Huntly and grabbed ourselves a table in the sunny rear courtyard. We were immediately handed menu's and ice cold water (which seems to be rare these days - why is cafe water always warm) and offered a few insider tips on the best items on the menu.

We kicked off with a couple of Fog City ciders - which I have never come across before but certainly enjoyed!

After a bit of umming and aahing over the menu (it all sounded good) I settled on a chicken salad wrap, and upon advice from our lovely server, added a bit of avocado/feta smash. And what a great move that was - really gave the dish a bit of extra oomph. The wrap overall was super fresh and satisfying, filled with beautifully crisp julienne vegetables and tasty shredded chicken.

Miss C was feeling adventurous and opted for a pastrami bagel with pickles and melted cheese, which was very rich, but certainly very tasty. I have a feeling this could be the perfect hangover cure...

And of course we couldn't go past a bowl of super chunky chips, which were crispy fried to perfection and served with a rather spectacular aioli.

We chilled in the courtyard for a couple of hours, and departed with full bellies and big smiles.

I have to be honest and say that this cafe didn't look like anything special from the street, or even from inside. But the quality food and above average service definitely earned my thumbs up.
